moving to a new home

check out the new digs
Check out the new address for Sandwich Lovers Club! It's always a work in progress, so it wasn't a simple "export all the posts and comments and import them into the new blog" trick. The new site is a combination of the blog, "...but do sandwiches love me?", which was titled as a play on words of another sandwich blog out there, and the best of the original website, "Sandwich Lovers Club."

I think blogs have become, or are becoming, the most productive means of communication across the internet. Sure, you want people to visit your site and browse through all sublevels of pages and such, but there is a limited amount of interactivity between parties. Blogs have alleviated this, and with the advent of twitter, facebook, etc., you can add a nice widget that lets your readers find you and communicate and interact with you on different areas of the net. It's a very cool thing going on right now, and we're fortunate to experience it.

Unless Blogger needs to remove inactive blogs after X amount of time, I'm leaving this address and original SCL blog intact. This original blog has been not so much as a way to express my own knowledge and practice of sandwichness, but a way for me to find other related sites, blogs, tidbits of tasty information that I learn from. I am a simple man with simple tastes, but there is so much that I have tried and need to try from the experience of like-minded sandwich fiends. It's pretty crazy to think that the Club has been online for 5 years now! But it is the truth, I tell you. Check the new home for the Sandwich Lovers Club for any new posts, news, etc...I've gotta start planning for the celebration. Thanks for visiting. I'll see you there!

Thank you, Blogger, for hosting this blog. It's been fun! I love you, bloggie.

Sandwich Squabbing

I love finding other sandwich-related sites, blogs, etc. I enjoy it even more when there's tension! Not really, but it's entertaining to keep up with it. I feel giddy like a little schoolgirl getting the gossip.

So here's what we have so far: our friend at Simply Sandwiches has beef (corned or roast? I don't know either...cue the drum & cymbal joke sound) with a similarly educational/entertaining blog at Unbreaded.

Also in the news: the case of conjoined, now separated, twins. I like the logo of Scanwich better, and the scans are raw, real-life images that tell it like it is. That's what NYC is about (I would imagine). The claim is that the imitator is Scanwiches, created earlier this year in New York as well. Scanwiches has a more artistic, clean approach to the scans, and labels the two coexisting blogs as a coincidence.

Really choice and entertaining reading to check out (your cue to do so now)... I can appreciate each side, because I'm not directly involved, and can see the worth of each site's offerings to the public. And the drama is a good thing sometimes. "These are great days we're living, bros."

3-14-09: National Potato Chip Day - win some flair!

What better use of chips than to put them in a sandwich? Maybe a bit on the elementary side, but why should you grow out of it after a certain age?

I used to make these all the time at lunch. It just makes it more fun to put two items together and make something new! Isn't that human nature? You take hydrogen, oxygen, and you've got water; kool-aid and sugar, and you've got drink. A girl and a boy, and you've got a bit of love! I say chips and a sandwich make a chip sandwich, and it totally reinvents the sandwich as we know it. Simple and crunchy.

In celebration of National Chip Day, I will make a chip sandwich, and I will like it. In fact, if anyone sends in a photo of a chip sandwich they make between now and Monday, March 16, 2009, I will mail you some SandwichLoversClub flair. Yes I will.

Happy Chip Day!

Happy Cold Cuts Day! (Really)

I don't know the origins of some of these holidays. I only know they must be celebrated! More reason to celebrate by having a sandwich today. Damn, if this guide to cold cuts doesn't clog your arteries just looking at it, I don't know what will. Hooray!!

Poll Results

An incredible 4 votes have been tallied, re-tallied, and tallied thrice (due to a hanging chad). Thanks for your vote! Results are as follows:

3 out of 4 sandwich lovers prefer to have the work done for them. They trust the judgement of others and are satisfied with the results that are provided. Which is totally reasonable. If I had someone to make a sandwich for me, I'd eat it, too.

25% of voters count on none other than their loving spouse to make their sandwich for them. They know that their loved one's skills and experience far exceed that of their local deli and that the end product is made to order.

I did not vote. But if I did, I'd be the only fool making my own sandwich. Because I know how I like it. Come to think of it, that's probably me making the sandwich for the voter who has their sandwich made for them by their spouse! Dammit. Hold on a sec... (sigh)...she wants me to make her a sandwich.

McDowell's!? Aaaaaggh!

This past weekend, I told my better half about how there are other sites and blogs dedicated to sandwiches out there, and one in particular that I've admired from time to time because of its style, content, and followers. And how I've made one-way contact with the guy who runs the joint, but that he'd never responded on any occasion.

So all of this was new to her, apparently. And she thought it was funny, how I loathe this other site/blog because he actually has readers and does other cool things like publish a book of grocery lists, 365 photos, etc. A creative powerhouse, apparently. And she laughed, wide-eyed, when another thought came into her head. "What?" I asked. "What?!" After a moment, she said,"You're McDowell's!"

To which I thought for no more than a split second, because I totally understood what she was saying, and said, "Aw, hail no! I ain't no McDowell's! That is not cool." That example, straight out of Coming to America, was a pretty damn good analogy. I must admit it. I'm not jazzed about it, but what am I gonna do?

In essence, I'm not really sure why I keep the site and blog for Sandwich Lover's Club. But I do know that it makes me happy to express some interest in this one particular type of food which I love, even if no one's reading. And if they are, then that's just dandy! Thanks for reading; I hope you enjoy the content.

I've been found! (hello to my fellow sandwich fiends)

It's nice to have validation every now and then. Hell, even my regular daily blog gets no action. But I know that other sandwich-minded individuals out there, like this friend with really insightful posts, make my sandwich blog's survival worthwhile. Dammit; he even found my piece on food & emotions!

Anywho, I just wanted to give a shout-out to all you sandwich lovers out there...keep fighting, keep dreaming, and keep eating incredible sandwiches. Peace!
